Due to the forecasted winter storm and potential hazards from freezing temperatures, Lamar Schools will be closed Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
Given the unpredictable timing of the storm and our commitment to the safety of our students and staff, we believe this is the best decision.

🚓😂 **SRO Appreciation Day – The Real Hallway Heroes!** 🚓😂
Today, we’re celebrating the **unsung heroes** of our schools—our **School Resource Officers**! 🎉 These legends don’t just keep us safe—they also:
✅ Know exactly who’s trying to sneak snacks into class 🍫👀
✅ Have a **sixth sense** for when drama is about to go down 🤨💬
✅ Can **walk into a room** and instantly restore order (seriously, how do they do that?!) 👮♂️✨
✅ Are basically **human lie detectors** when students say, “I wasn’t doing anything!” 🤨
✅ Keep our school running on **good vibes, safety, and just the right amount of side-eye** 😆
A **huge thank you** to our SROs for everything you do—especially for pretending not to hear all the bad jokes we tell. 😂

Mrs. Deen's kindergarten class with the help of student intern Ms Armstrong have been learning about economics. They had the opportunity to practice buying and selling items.

Jackie King and Tim Tanner from St Mary's came to visit the 8th grade career development classes. Students were taught about the warning signs for stroke and heart attack. They practiced how to perform CPR, and how to check heart rates and blood pressure.

There are only ten days left to guarantee a yearbook for your student. We do not plan on ordering many extra books and those few books will be sold first come, first served in the sequence of date/time purchased. There is no guarantee of a yearbook if you don’t place your order NOW!

Our counselors are the **unsung heroes** of our district. 💙 They work tirelessly behind the scenes and are the true **Warriors** for our students. From supporting mental health to addressing physical needs, like ensuring students have food for the weekends, all three of our amazing counselors go above and beyond every single day.
Their dedication to helping students grow into productive, well-rounded citizens doesn’t go unnoticed. Thank you, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Zimmerman, and Mr. Meador, for your compassion, hard work, and endless care for our kids. 💪🍎
Let’s give a big round of applause for our amazing counselors! 👏

5th grade GT students had a great time learning a new skill as they completed a sewing project—making pillowcases! Special thanks to the Johnson County and Franklin County Extension Office agents for guiding them through the process. 🧵✨

On Monday, Laiken Boen, the High School Career Coach, took students who are interested in STEM careers to tour the training facility at Arkansas Nuclear One. Students got to meet with representatives of different departments including: radiation protection, operations, engineering, and emergency preparedness. They had an opportunity to visit the control room simulators and be part of a mock emergency drill.

From polymers to plastics, Mrs. Pearson's 7th-grade science class started the new year strong by developing essential research and digital literacy skills.
