Old Special Education Records to be Destroyed

According to the state and federal regulations, special education files must be

destroyed six years after a student leaves any special education program. This

includes speech therapy and any and all special education placements in the

Lamar School District.

Records for special education students who moved away, graduated, or were

dismissed from special education programs prior to July 1, 2019, will be destroyed

at Lamar School District. These are not permanent school records or transcripts.

They are only special education due process forms and records.

Parents and former students 18 and over have the right to review and request

these records before they are destroyed. Those who wish to see records dated

through July 1, 2019, may do so before September 30, 2025, between the hours

of 8:30 and 2:30 p.m. in the Superintendent’s office. If you have any

questions, please contact Candy Harris, Sped Supervisor through the

Superintendent’s office.
